Round The Square

As part of the GAA communications plan, they have launched their own GAA online show, www.roundthesquare.ie. This will be available weekly each Thursday until the end of both the Hurling and Football Championships.
It can also be viewed on www.gaa.ie.
Each week the show will feature: the latest GAA news, GAA columnists Joe Deane & Jason Sherlock previewing the weekend’s action, Super Scores, My Club, Player Focus and a Behind the Scenes view from Croke Park. Hopefully this show will appeal to all GAA fans at home and abroad and that you also enjoy it

Senior Hurlers Promoted after Victory

The Senior Hurlers won the Division 2 league title and gauranteed Division 1 hurling for next year after beating Clan na Gael on Wednesday night 2-18 to 2-09. Solid performances in defence by Colm Morrissey and Ronan Collins helped the cause while Joe Maher was as clinical up front as usual.

The lads haven’t lost a league match all year and only have one game left against St. Olafs in September. That match has now become a formality but I’m sure the lads will want to keep there perfect season going. They are also still involved in the Senior Championship aswell with games against Naomh Mearnog and Naomh Fionnbarra coming up in September and hopefully they can build on their tremendous league campaign and go on a good run in the championship.

Congrtaulations to all involved and hopefully 2011 season will be an even better one in Division 1.

Congratulations Eimear Martin

Congratulations to Ladies senior footballer Eimear Martin on her recent call-up to the Dublin senior panel.

Eimear, a member of our Ladies Senior football panel, is an integral part of the team and her hardwork and guile has been rewarded.

Eimear is only with Ballinteer a short while but has always represented the club with pride and distinction and everyone at the club is very proud that she followed in the footsteps of many more men and women from around the area to grace the Dublin jersey.

Ballinteer Girls Triumph in Leinster Decider

In Clane, Co. Kildare last Saturday afternoon Dublin under 16’s ladies beat rivals Laois to clinch the Leinster title, representing Ballinteer St. Johns were the manager Fintan O’Curry, member of the backroom staff Alan Garvin and players Shauna Garvin, Laura O’Curry and Maria Kenny.

The final scoreline of 5-13 to 2-10 was met with scenes of jubilation and they now go on to contest an All Ireland semi final in August.

Championship Forecast Update – Final Week

Well, with all the provincial championships now decided, we have our overall winner – Stephen McNamara has made a “late run” into first place, picking up 20pts this week on both the Ulster football and Munster hurling finals, to finish on 160points.  Congratulations to Stephen, who picks up the first prize of €1000 – well done.

In second place is John Kelly … just pipped at the post; John picked up 10points this week, and finishes on 157. Well done to John who gets the second prize of €500

In third place comes Aidan Conway, who unfortunately didn’t score this week, but with 150points, earns a nice €250!!

And finally in fourth place, jumping up 12 places this week with 20 points is Eilish McCarthy, to finish on 147 points – picks up €100 for her trouble!

Thanks to everyone who has participated in the competition, it was a good bit of craic to update every week and see how everyone was getting on.

Hopefully we will run it again next year!

Senior Footballers Unluckily Lose Out In Rush

The senior footballer suffered heartbreak in Rush on Friday evening by losing out to seasoned AFL 2 campaigners St. Maurs, The team who started very well went in at half time 0-7 to 0-6 up but couldn’t convert the dominance in the 2nd half when St Maurs went back on top and only for a very well worked goal from St Maurs full forward Chris Moore  it could have gone ballinteer’s way.

The final score was 1-09 St. Maurs 0-10 Ballinteer.
